Does this sound like you?

  • A dull ache or sharp pain across your lower back
  • Stiffness that makes getting out of bed or out of the car hard
  • Pain when you bend, lift, or stand up straight
  • Pain that gets worse after sitting at a desk or driving
  • Back pain that started after a car accident, fall, or work injury
  • Pain that keeps coming back, or hasn’t changed in weeks

Why we start with the source, not the symptom

Back pain is a signal, not a diagnosis. Two common sources are the small facet joints along the back of the spine, which can lose normal motion and become irritated, and the discs between the vertebrae, which can bulge and put pressure on nearby nerves.

Pain medication and rest can quiet the symptom without changing what is causing it. That is why Dr. Brenda Slovin uses the Gonstead technique: a detailed system of examination and analysis designed to identify the specific area of the spine involved, followed by precise, hands-on adjustments. If we find that chiropractic is not the right fit for your case, we will tell you and refer you to the right provider.

What happens at your first visit

  1. We listen

We go through your history: when the pain started, what makes it better or worse, past injuries, and what you have already tried.

  2. We examine

A hands-on exam of your spine, posture, and movement. If imaging is needed, we explain why before anything is done.

  3. We explain

You leave knowing what we found, what we recommend, and what it involves. No pressure and no surprises.

We accept most major insurance. Call the front desk and we will confirm your coverage before your first visit.

Common questions

Isn’t some back pain normal?

Common and normal are not the same thing. Back pain that keeps returning, limits what you can do, or has lasted more than a few weeks is worth having examined.

Do you treat back pain from car accidents or work injuries?

Yes. We see patients for auto injuries, workers’ compensation cases, and slip and falls, along with everyday back pain.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. You can book directly with us. Some insurance plans have their own requirements, so we check your plan before your first visit.

Do you take insurance?

We accept most major insurance. Call (203) 840-0000 and the front desk will confirm your coverage before your first visit.

What is the Gonstead technique?

Gonstead is a chiropractic system that combines a detailed examination with specific, hands-on adjustments. The goal is to identify the exact area of the spine involved rather than adjusting the whole back the same way.
