What to Expect at Your First Visit to Slovin Chiropractic Center

Your first visit to Slovin Chiropractic Center in Norwalk takes about an hour. It includes a one-on-one consultation and a full orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examination, plus standing X-rays if your case calls for them. If we accept your case, your first adjustment comes at your second visit, after we have reviewed every finding with you.

The comment we hear most often from new patients is that they were surprised by how thorough that first visit was. Here is exactly what happens, from the phone call to your first adjustment.

How do I book my first appointment?

Call us at (203) 840-0000. We are available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, with Saturday appointments by request. If you would like to talk with a doctor before scheduling an exam, ask about a free consultation.

Can I choose which doctor I see?

Yes. Dr. Brenda Slovin and Dr. Erik Slovin are both primary providers at the practice. Dr. Brenda Slovin practices the Gonstead Technique, and Dr. Erik Slovin practices the Thompson Technique and specializes in car accident injuries. You can request either doctor or book with whoever is available first.

Do I need to fill out forms before I arrive?

You can complete your intake forms online before your visit or in our office. If you plan to fill them out in person, please arrive 15 minutes early.

What should I bring?

  • A photo ID
  • Your insurance card
  • Any medical records you think may be relevant, including recent X-rays or MRI reports
  • If you were in an accident, all of your accident claim information

What should I wear?

You will change into a gown for your examination, so please wear appropriate underclothing.

What happens during the first visit?

Consultation. Your visit starts with a conversation. Your doctor will ask about your symptoms, when they started, your health history and what you want to get back to doing.

Orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examination. Your doctor then examines how your joints and muscles move, checks your nervous system function, and evaluates your spine to find where it is and is not moving well. Dr. Brenda Slovin uses the Gonstead system for this evaluation, and Dr. Erik Slovin uses the Thompson system.

X-rays, only when needed. Not every patient needs X-rays. When your case calls for them, we take them standing, so we can see your spine as it carries your weight. If you have recent films from another provider, bring them with you.

Will I get adjusted on my first visit?

Typically not. We review all of your findings before we adjust. At your second visit, your doctor walks you through a report of findings, including your X-rays if you had them, and explains what we found and whether chiropractic care is right for you. If we accept your case, your first adjustment follows that review.

What happens after my visit?

Every patient leaves with at-home care instructions, so the work continues between visits.

Is chiropractic care gentle enough for me?

We see children, pregnant patients and seniors. If you are nervous about being adjusted, tell your doctor. We have gentler options, including drop tables, and your doctor will explain each step before it happens.

Does insurance cover my visit?

We accept most major insurance plans. Bring your insurance card to your first visit.

What if I was in a car accident?

Dr. Erik Slovin specializes in car accident cases, and our office works regularly with attorneys and auto insurance companies. Bring all of your accident claim information to your first visit so we can coordinate with the right parties.

Where is the office, and where do I park?
